Adoption Information
Rattie Ratz always always has a large mischief looking for responsible guardians and caring homes. In an effort to ensure a lifelong commitment, our adoption process strives to make the best possible match between you and your new rat companions. We do our best to match the animal’s needs and temperament with the adopter’s lifestyle and interests. We place hundreds of domestic pet rats in loving homes every year and are proud to say that most adoptions result in lifelong relationships.
***We now have a page that is dedicated to featuring all of our currently available/adoptable rats! We are very pleased to be able to offer this new feature but please bear in mind that this page will not list ALL of the rats in our care***
Potential adopters can send in their application for pre-approval BUT YOUR APPLICATION IS NOT COMPLETE UNTIL WE RECIEVE PHOTOS OF YOUR CAGE!! Our online application can not accept photo attachments and we do require photos of your completely set up cage! If you have not selected a cage yet, that's fine. Please send us an email to highlight that and we will work with you on getting an appropriate cage. Cages MUST BE COMPLETELY SET UP. They must have everything in the cage that you are expecting to use for your rats. This gives us an idea of where you are at when it comes to being prepared for their environmental enrichment. Rats are VERY curious and need cages with lots of things to do because they will be spending a large majority of their life in their cage. You can find all kinds of ideas on how to fill a rats cage online. When you are ready, you can submit your application for pre-approval. You can also submit an application once you find a possible match but please bear in mind that we accept several applications for each animal and will try to match our rats with the best family for them. Applicants that have been pre-approved will be prioritized since they may have been waiting for the right match for quite some time.
Potential adopters are also more than welcome to stop by at any of our adoption fairs and events to view animals available for adoption. Please keep in mind that we do not bring all of our available animals to the events so if you are looking for a particular variety of rat, please contact us in advance to see if we have anyone to match your needs. The entire adoption process takes about an hour if you come to an adoption event. If you are hoping to adopt an animal at one of our events, please remember to bring a carrier for your new companions. You should also allocate at least 1.5 hours to complete the process because there may be other potential adopters scheduled before you.
We place hundreds of needy animals into new homes each year and, if you are interested in providing a home for a rescued animal, we look forward to helping you find that perfect companion! Thank you for your interest in adopting from Rattie Ratz!
Welcome Back!
Welcome Back! is a program available to all of our adoptive families. Although we try our best to ensure an excellent match, there are certain things that are beyond our control. If, for any reason, you need to re-home an animal adopted from our organization, we welcome our animals back with open arms. Please do not abandon your adopted animal, do not give them away or take it to a shelter where it may not be given a chance at finding another home. Contact us to arrange to bring your adopted animal back to Rattie Ratz.
